SUMMARY:School Action for Safety and Health (SASH) Training
DESCRIPTION:SASH Program: A California Initiative to Promote Safe and Healthy Workplaces for California’s School Employees\nCalifornia school districts face a number of occupational safety and health issues.   In some cases\, school districts have been fined by Cal/OSHA when health and safety issues result in violations of Cal/OSHA standards.  Risk management staff\, maintenance and operations departments and other school employees are working to address these problems in a climate of reduced funding. \nCalifornia’s Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation (CHSWC) has established a Schools Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) model program – the California School Action for Safety and Health (SASH) – to help schools statewide improve their injury and illness prevention practices.  The program includes training and resources to enable school districts to develop or improve IIPPs and to make other health and safety improvements to help protect school employees from injuries and illnesses on the job.  The target audience will focus on K-12 schools and school districts at high risk of occupational injury and illness. \nASCIP is partnering with UCLA to provide the SASH training.  The SASH training program is a hands-on\, interactive\, 1 day course that trains key school district employees to become health and safety leaders for their district.  Participants will learn key occupational safety and health concepts\, how to develop an effective Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)\, and how to take a leadership role in promoting health and safety for school employees. \nThis training is scheduled on September 23rd from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and will be held in ASCIP’s Training Room\, 16550 Bloomfield Avenue\, Cerritos\, 90703.  Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. \nHow to Register?  Contact ASCIP at training_info@ascip.org to obtain a Registration form.  The form must be completed and submitted by September 15\, 2014. \nFor more information about SASH\, go to:   http://www.dir.ca.gov/Chswc/SASH/index.htm \n  \nWho should attend this training? \n\nHuman resource department staff responsible for writing district’s IIPP or overseeing other health and safety activities.\nDirectors of maintenance and operations.\nHead custodians and other department managers.\nRisk managers and loss control staff.\nUnion representatives.\nMembers of employee health and safety committee.\n\nIf you have any questions\, please email Sarah at sjacobs@irle.ucla.edu or (310) 295-8273.
